Job description:
About Us
We are a psychiatric practice serving approximately 10,000 patients in California. Founded two years ago, we've grown to a tight-knit team of 18 providers committed to delivering exceptional mental health care. We're intentionally small by design—with plans to grow modestly to no more than 25 providers—because we believe quality care requires a practice that stays connected, collaborative, and clinically excellent. We are privately owned with no interest in selling to corporate healthcare systems.
The Opportunity
We're seeking a California-licensed psychiatrist to join us in a dual role as a treating clinician and Medical Director. This is an ideal position for someone who loves clinical work but is equally passionate about mentorship, team development, and shaping practice culture.
Schedule Breakdown
- 20 hours per week of direct patient care
- Remaining time dedicated to medical directorship responsibilities
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position. Our providers deliver care via telehealth, with our administrative office located in San Rafael. Occasionally, providers see patients in person at various locations throughout the state (for example, a PMHNP might work from an office in San Diego for a week), but this psychiatrist role does not require travel or in-person clinical hours.
You must be a California resident to be considered for this position.
Our Clinical Approach
We serve high-functioning patients and believe in giving providers the time they need to deliver thoughtful, individualized care. Our standard scheduling includes 60-minute intakes and 30-minute follow-ups, though providers regularly opt for 60-minute follow-ups when a patient benefits from more time or a more therapeutic approach. We trust our clinicians to make those decisions.
Medical Director Responsibilities
- Serve as the formal collaborating physician for 4 PMHNPs to meet insurance contract requirements
- Be available during the day as the go-to resource for clinical questions from all providers
- Review provider notes and offer constructive, supportive feedback to foster clinical growth
- Cultivate a positive learning environment where providers feel comfortable asking questions and developing their skills
- Provide ongoing mentorship and education for our team of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners
- Collaborate with practice leadership on policy development, clinical protocols, and quality improvement initiatives
- Help maintain our culture of clinical excellence and continuous learning
- Participate in hiring decisions and provider onboarding as we grow thoughtfully
What We're Looking For and Requirements
MD with board certification in psychiatry
- Active California medical license (or ability to obtain)
- California residency
- Genuine enthusiasm for working collaboratively with PMHNPs
- Alignment with our values of quality over volume

Our Amazing PMHNP Team
We take pride in the quality of our nurse practitioners. They are motivated, engaged learners who genuinely want to provide excellent care and develop their clinical skills. This role is best suited for a psychiatrist who sees collaboration with PMHNPs as rewarding rather than obligatory—someone who wants to build people up, not just oversee them.
