Establish and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in population science aligned with the strategic priorities of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Department of Medical Oncology. Publish high-impact, peer-reviewed scholarship advancing cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship, and outcomes research, and contribute to multidisciplinary research initiatives across Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Health, and Drexel University. Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in population science and related disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- • Establish/Sustain an independent, externally funded research program in population science aligned with the strategic priorities of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) and the Department of Medical Oncology.
- • Publish high-impact, peer-reviewed scholarship that advances cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship, and outcomes research.
- • Contribute to multidisciplinary research initiatives that span basic, clinical, translational, and population science domains across Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Health, and Drexel University.
- • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in population science and related disciplines, consistent with academic rank.

- • Advanced methodological expertise enabling rigorous, multilevel, data-driven research that integrates behavioral, clinical, social, environmental, and system-level factors.
- • Expertise in implementation science, health economics, geospatial analytics, advanced quantitative methods, and related approaches.
- • Data-intensive population science expertise, including clinical epidemiology, computational epidemiology, population informatics, or related fields leveraging electronic health records, enterprise data systems, cancer registries, geospatial data, and other real-world data sources.
- • Cancer control research focused on survivorship, spanning from diagnosis across the life course, with emphasis on population-based and implementation-oriented approaches.

The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) and the Department of Medical Oncology at TJU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is excited to announce a new Open Rank tenure-track faculty position in SKCCC and the Division of Population Science in the Department of Medical Oncology. This recruitment reflects SKCCC’s continued investment in advancing population science to improve cancer outcomes across the continuum of care.
Job Description
Consistent with the Division’s strategic priorities, areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the following:
SKCCC is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, comprising investigators from Thomas Jefferson University and Drexel University. SKCCC recently achieved comprehensive status, with its Community Outreach and Engagement component rated as exceptional. The Cancer Risk and Control research program includes more than $13 million in peer-reviewed funding and 34 full members across 15 departments.
Jefferson Health is a large, integrated enterprise health system with a network spanning urban, suburban, and regional care settings. This scale and diversity provide exceptional opportunities for health system–based research, real-world data science, and population health investigation across heterogeneous populations and care contexts. Current population science strengths include biomarkers, cancer disparities, screening, behavioral science, and aging. SKCCC’s consortium partnership with Drexel University further strengthens capacity in geospatial analytics, health policy, and obesity-related research.
Recruited faculty will receive generous start-up support, a competitive salary, modern research facilities, and robust administrative and research infrastructure. Priority areas include implementation science, health economics, geospatial analytics, advanced quantitative methods, and related approaches that strengthen the design, evaluation, and scalability of complex interventions across the cancer continuum.
- Data-intensive population science expertise, including clinical epidemiology, computational epidemiology, population informatics, or related fields that leverage electronic health records, enterprise data systems, cancer registries, geospatial data, and other real-world data sources. Such expertise supports the characterization of cancer risk, identification of disparities, construction of representative cohorts, and advancement of data infrastructure for precision-informed population health research.
- Cancer control research focused on survivorship, spanning from the point of diagnosis across the remainder of the individual’s life course. Emphasis is placed on population-based and implementation-oriented approaches to understanding health and quality-of-life trajectories, with the goal of informing scalable, sustainable models for monitoring and improving survivorship outcomes over time.
