Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology

The role involves leadership in clinical microbiology including molecular and clinical microbiology disciplines such as bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, and virology. The Associate Director will engage in clinical consultation, quality management, operational efficiency, outreach, and participate in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and graduate students, as well as pursue clinical, translational, and collaborative research opportunities.

Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology

The Department of Pathology, University of Maryland School of Medicine invites MD
and/or PhD applicants for a full-time Clinical Pathology faculty position at the level of
Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will have experience in
molecular and clinical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology,
mycobacteriology, parasitology and virology. Subspecialty fellowship training in
microbiology, including ACGME or CPEP-accredited clinical microbiology fellowship, is
required. Evidence of success in the academic setting, including teaching and publications,
is required; external grant-funded research is desirable. Academic appointment and salary
will be commensurate with academic rank and experience. Salary ranges from 150K –
300K.
The UMMC Microbiology Laboratory is the reference microbiology laboratory for the
University of Maryland System and performs testing for 14 hospitals within the University
of Maryland System. The Assistant/Associate Director will be actively involved in clinical
issues, including consultation, quality management, operational efficiency and outreach.
Academic opportunities include clinical, translational and collaborative research. UMMC
has a pathology residency program and a CPEP-accredited microbiology fellowship
program. The applicant will be expected to be active in teaching medical students,
residents, infectious disease and clinical microbiology fellows and graduate students.
