Psychiatrist 1 and 2, (NY HELPS), Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit, P26300

Provide outpatient psychiatric treatment to individuals with serious mental illness aged 18 or older. Deliver comprehensive, patient-centered, and recovery-focused care including psychiatric assessments, treatment planning, medication management, psychotherapy, and supervision of residents and fellows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
  • Creating treatment plans including medication management
  • Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
  • Providing individual and group psychotherapy
  • Supervising Psychiatric Residents and Fellows
Required
  • License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State
  • Completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) for Psychiatrist 1
  • Certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN for Psychiatrist 2
  • OR one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law for candidates within State Service
  • Cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists
  • May be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider and obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
  • Maintaining license and certification; loss may result in removal from position

Duties Description

Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit (WHU), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to provide outpatient psychiatric treatment to individuals with serious mental illness.

As a Psychiatrist at WHU, you will provide comprehensive, patient centered and recovery focused treatments to individuals with mental illness 18 year of age or older; including:

  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
  • Creating treatment plans including medication management
  • Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
  • Providing individual and group psychotherapy
  • Supervising Psychiatric Residents and Fellows

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Psychiatrists at OMH facilities are eligible for:

  • Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program offering up to $120,000
  • Supplemental income of up to 50% of salary by volunteering to provide evening, night, and weekend coverage

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000

PSYCHIATRIST 1: $270,356

PSYCHIATRIST 2: $283,577

NOTE:

  • In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
  • If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
  • License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
