Physician - Internal Medicine- Bariatric Medicine- Eating Disorders

This role involves practicing Bariatric Medicine within the Eating Disorders and Weight Management Center, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, APPs, nutritionists, and RN health coaches. The position focuses on comprehensive obesity treatment through medical management, nutritional counseling, health coaching, and coordination of care with primary care physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform history and physical examinations

  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultative services to adolescent and adult patients with common and complex illness, diseases and functional disorders of the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, and genitourinary systems
Required
  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Experience demonstrated by residency procedure log and list of completed rotations if just completed residency
  • Or quality profile from hospital(s) showing clinical activity for the last 12 months including number of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications
  • Active involvement of inpatient services to be at least 50 patients in the last 12 months
  • Or documentation of clinic activity for the last 12 months with active involvement in care of 50 patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months if quality profile is not available
  • Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, AOA or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the ABMS, AOA or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or eligibility to achieve board certification within five years from residency completion

Sanford Health is seeking a BC/BE Family Medicine or BC/BE Internal Medicine physician specializing in Bariatric Medicine to practice in the Eating Disorders and Weight Management Center in Fargo, ND.

• Join a team of three physicians, 2 APPs, nutritionists and RN health coaches, working in close collaboration with bariatric surgeons and primary care physicians.
• The Sanford Eating Disorder and Weight Management Center offers a comprehensive weight loss program with expertise in the recommended components of obesity treatment. Medical management of obesity follows a multidisciplinary approach with four main components – nutrition, physical activity, behavioral modifications and medication options.
• Our program offers evaluation by providers experienced in Bariatric Medicine, individual and group nutritional counseling, health coaching with a registered nurse, and coordination of care with primary care physicians.

Job Description

Internal Medicine Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examinations, admit (if applicable to the setting), evaluate, diagnosis, treat and provide consultative services to adolescent and adult patients with common and complex illness, diseases and functional disorders of the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, and genitourinary systems.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree.

Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: An applicant who has just completed residency shall provide their residency procedure log and a list of completed rotations, as applicable. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, to include number of procedures performed-morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services to be at least 50 patients in the last 12 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinic activity for the last 12 months is required. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the care of 50 patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. Training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above, may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy. Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entity’s policy for grandfather exceptions)
