The Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Division provides direct patient care at multiple Memorial Hermann healthcare system sites, managing OB emergencies, unassigned L&D patients, GYN care in the ER, private OB call coverage, surgical assistance, and rapid response. Physicians work independently or supervise trainees, manage a range of acuity levels, participate in clinical research, and have opportunities for outpatient care and GYN surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide patient evaluations within the OB Emergency Department
- • Manage obstetrical care of unassigned Labor & Delivery patients
- • Provide GYN care for unassigned patients presenting to the ER needing consultation or management
- • Cover private OB call and support Labor & Delivery
- • Assist in surgical procedures
- • Respond rapidly to OB emergencies
- • Work independently at some sites and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, and physician assistants or nurse practitioners at others
- • Participate in clinical research
- • Manage some patients in an outpatient clinic setting with GYN surgery opportunities
- • Assist in training Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Fellows
Required
- • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- • Completion of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences Residency program
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Division within McGovern Medical School is a rapidly expanding program that provides direct patient care at multiple sites within the Memorial Hermann healthcare system. The program offers a variety of services that include patient evaluations within the OB Emergency Department, obstetrical management of unassigned L&D patients, GYN care for unassigned patients who present to the ER and need consultation or management, private OB call coverage and L&D support, surgical assistance, and OB emergency rapid response. We take great pride in elevating the standard of care for women within our facilities and improving safety and clinical outcomes.
Our physicians work independently at some sites while supervising medical students, residents, fellows, and physician assistants or nurse practitioners at others……. Our affiliation with McGovern Medical School ensures we have state-of-the-art care capabilities and readily available sub-specialty support when needed. Our facilities range from relatively low volume and low acuity to high volume and high acuity sites, and shifts typically span 12-24 hours. Our physicians are trained to skillfully manage a variety of OB and GYN emergencies while participating in clinical research. Physicians are also encouraged to be active members within the Society of Ob/Gyn Hospitalists. Furthermore, they can also manage some patients in an outpatient clinic setting with GYN surgery opportunities.
Our physicians also have the unique opportunity to assist in training our Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Fellows. This program offers both one- and two-year clinical tracks and its goal is to produce highly qualified, future Ob/Gyn Hospitalists who can help promote and develop this growing area of specialized care and focused practice as well as assist physicians who might be at a point of indecision or transition with regards to their careers, future training, or employment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO).
- Residency: Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Resident program completion.
