Physician - Deputy Chief of Staff
The Deputy Chief of Staff oversees Clinical Service Departments and serves as the lead physician during the absence of the Chief of Staff. The role involves working with clinical service chiefs and staff to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and enhance utilization management.
Key Responsibilities
- • Serve as the lead physician during absence of the Chief of Staff
- • Work with clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and improve utilization management
- • Review requests for contracts and help determine the best way to obtain required resources
- • Coordinate transfers by working with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, and other facilities as needed
- • Supervise a variety of staff aligned under the Chief of Staff Office
- • Serve on a broad spectrum of medical center committees, task forces, etc.
- • Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent's board certification
- • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Required
- • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- • Degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
- • Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
- • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- • Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems appropriate
- • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
- • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
- • PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
- • Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
- • Proficiency in spoken and written English
- • Physical Requirements: Light lifting under 15 pounds, light carrying under 15 pounds, pulling hand over hand for 1.5 hours (varies), pushing 1 hour (varies), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (6 hours varies), standing (8 hours varies), repeated bending (4 hours varies), use of hands and fingers, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 12" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4, hearing (aid permitted)
