NI-Physician, Cardiothoracic Surgery

This role involves providing care to cardiothoracic surgery patients with a focus on adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery disease and structural heart disease such as surgical and trans-catheter aortic valve replacement. The position includes working in the region's only designated Heart Hospital, starting a TAVR program, supporting lung cancer patient care, and collaborating with advanced practice providers and cardiologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing care to cardiothoracic surgery patients at UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, working closely with advanced practice providers who streamline workflow and patient management
  • Working exclusively in the region’s only designated Heart Hospital, the UW Health Heart Institute
  • Starting a TAVR program with the support of 10 cardiologists
  • Supporting Carbone Cancer Center Rockford in caring for lung cancer patients
  • Using state-of-the-art equipment and operating rooms, including a brand new hybrid room, 15 modern surgical suites and 3 Da Vinci Xi robots
  • Providing care in a 30-bed ICU with dedicated in-house intensivist support
  • Serving a 12-county regional referral area in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, with a catchment area of over 500,000
  • Academic appointment and teaching with University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford

  • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
  • Active Illinois medical license
  • Board Certification or Board Eligible in Endocrinology with board certification obtained within 5 years
Preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION

UW Health in northern Illinois is recruiting an exceptional, board-certified Cardiac Surgeon to join our dynamic cardiovascular surgery team. We are looking for candidates with an interest in adult cardiac surgery, with a focus on coronary artery disease and structural heart disease, including surgical and trans-catheter aortic valve replacement.

We're looking for candidates who have the desire and passion to help build a robust cardiothoracic surgery service line in northern Illinois. You will have the full support of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in this endeavor.

As a member of our medical group with over 280 employed providers, including comprehensive cardiology and pulmonary teams as well as over 100 primary care providers, you have the benefit of a built-in referral base from the area's preferred healthcare provider.
