Mayo Clinic
The Nocturnist is primarily responsible for patient admissions with no triaging or cross-coverage responsibilities at the Saint Mary's campus and limited cross-cover at the Rochester Methodist campus. The role may also include performing the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) duties, which involve triaging patient transfer requests and liaising with Emergency Department staff without cross-cover or admitting responsibilities. The Nocturnist participates in medical research, quality improvement, leadership, and educational activities to advance patient care.

- • May perform Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) role which includes triaging patient transfer request calls from Mayo Clinic Health System hospitals and other hospitals around the country
- • Liaising with Emergency Department staff as MOD
- • Participate in medical research, quality improvement, leadership, and/or educational endeavors to advance patient care
- • Medical educator opportunities including teaching medical students, residents, and hospital medicine fellows
Required
- • M.D., D.O. or foreign degree equivalent
- • Must have or be eligible for Minnesota medical license
- • Board Certified in Internal Medicine
Preferred
- • Track record as a medical educator and/or researcher
- • Prior experience working in hospital medicine
- • Advanced training (fellowship or Master’s degree)
- • Demonstrated scholarly activity such as publication record or additional training or experience at a top-ranked academic medical center

Qualifications
A qualified candidate must have M.D., D.O. or foreign degree equivalent, must have or be eligible for Minnesota medical license, and must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
Preference is given to candidates with prior experience working in hospital medicine, or advanced training (fellowship or Master’s degree) and demonstrated scholarly activity (such as publication record or additional training or experience at a top-ranked academic medical center).

Compensation Detail
The minimum starting salary for hospital-based specialties may range from $211,000 to $533,750. This range reflects full-time total base compensation prior to consideration of additional experience or duties. Pay for the selected candidate will vary based on specialty, experience, FTE, internal equity, or external market data.
