Optum
This role involves providing direct patient care for a wide range of urgent medical conditions, performing minor procedures, interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing patient management plans. The physician will collaborate with advanced practice providers and clinical staff, document patient encounters, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and supervise and train staff as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide direct patient care for a wide range of urgent medical conditions (sore throat, respiratory illness, rashes and skin infections, sprains and strains, fracture care, cuts, burns and others)
- • Perform minor procedures and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, EKGs, labs, CT scans, ultrasound, MRI, echocardiogram, PFT, urodynamic tests, and more)
- • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Communicates with patients regarding testing results, follow-up care, and additional information. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate
- • Collaborate with advanced practice providers and clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care
- • Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- • Follows established policies, procedures, objectives, and recommended referral practices. Participates in facility in-services, required training, recruiting, required staff meetings, and other clinic operations procedures
- • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold clinical best practices
- • Supervision of advance practice providers when appropriate and abide by all associated rules and regulations
- • Orientation and training of new practitioners when necessary. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of support staff as required
Required
- • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited School of Medicine
- • Board Certification in a specialty field (Emergency, Family or Internal Medicine preferred)
- • Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in South Carolina (or willingness to obtain)
- • Active DEA license with no restrictions
- • Ability to obtain ACLS & BLS certification within 90 days of employment
- • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel

- • Experience with EMR systems
- • Solid knowledge of urgent care protocols and procedures
- • Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA regulations
- • Commitment to quality, safety, and infection control standards

We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Physician to join our Urgent Care team. This role is ideal for a provider who thrives in a fast-paced setting and is passionate about delivering high-quality care for non-emergent illnesses and injuries.
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations governing the legal scope of medical practice.
Primary Responsibilities

- Open 7 days per week
- M-F 7:30am-6pm
- Sat/Sun - 7:30am - 5pm
- Providers are required to work 13 shifts per month
- Clinician will work rotating shifts between our two locations, Sumter and Manning, South Carolina. Requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Also requires travel to other sites, the ability to stand and sit for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Urgent care providers have an opportunity to work additional shifts for a pre-determined stipend amount and / or work in the primary care setting.
