The role involves providing high-quality, comprehensive outpatient medical evaluation and consultation for complex patients scheduled for surgery. The candidate will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care physicians, and consultants to coordinate care prior to surgery, evaluating patients through history, physical exams, labs, and imaging to determine medical optimization before surgery. The position supports two pre-operative medicine clinics and may involve coordination with the Senior Surgical Care Program.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide comprehensive outpatient medical evaluation and consultation for complex patients scheduled for surgery.
- • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care physicians, and consultants to coordinate care prior to surgery.
- • Conduct thorough history and physical examinations.
- • Order appropriate labs and imaging.
- • Interpret data and determine if patients are medically optimized prior to their surgical procedure.
- • Support both Kaiser Sunnyside and Westside Medical Centers pre-operative medicine clinics.
- • Coordinate/assist with the multi-disciplinary Senior Surgical Care Program.
Required
- • Board Certified or Eligible in Internal Medicine or a Medicine sub-specialty
- • At least 5 years of experience is recommended in Internal Medicine or a Medicine sub-specialty
Preferred
- • Geriatric fellowship training preferred but not required
- • Interest in leadership preferred

We invite applications to join our Pre-Operative Medicine team in Portland, OR. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to provide high-quality, comprehensive care. You must excel in evaluating complex patients with multiple co-morbid conditions. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are expected. Interest in leadership preferred. We currently have two pre-operative medicine clinics at the Kaiser Sunnyside and Westside Medical Centers. You will need to be flexible to support both locations. In this role, you will support a broad scope of patients and may also coordinate/assist with the multi-disciplinary Senior Surgical Care Program.

- The team works closely with the surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care physicians and our consultants to coordinate care prior to surgery.
- The evaluation involves a thorough history and physical, ordering appropriate labs and imaging, interpreting data and determining if patients are medically optimized prior to their surgical procedure.
