The Medical Physicist in collaboration with other members of the medical team has the primary responsibility for the technical aspects of clinical treatment provided through the radiation therapy department. Collaborates with Medical Staff in developing the course of treatment, clinical documentation, and review of outcomes. Provides training for departmental staff, provides lectures and training for medical staff as requested, serves as radiation safety officer, assists in the strategic planning for equipment and provision of services, assists in development of policies and clinical protocols, provides professional oversight for departmental operations. Assists with duties of the Dosimetrist role as assigned including generating radiation treatment dosage calculations and treatment locations, computerized treatment plans, and dose distributions in order to provide radiation treatment in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists’ order. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment. Other areas of involvement may include but are not limited to, radioactive source handling, radiation safety, and patient setup assistance. Performs verification checks and applies quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of dose calculations. Performs job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.
