This role involves providing pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine services in community/outpatient settings and potentially inpatient settings at a VA Medical Center. The position includes modest office hours, a 1:4 call rotation with weekend coverage, and collaboration with hospitalists for ICU patient co-management, with optional procedures and virtual nocturnal ICU coverage to support work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- • Work in a community/outpatient setting at Moorland Reserve Health Center and potentially outpatient & inpatient settings at the Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
- • Participate in a call rotation of 1:4 with weekend coverage.
- • Co-manage ICU patients with hospitalist support.
- • Utilize virtual nocturnal ICU coverage with very limited after-hours critical care needs.
- • Perform optional procedures such as central lines, intubations, and thoracentesis.
- • Provide care in clinics, ICU, and pulmonary consult service weeks & procedures at the VA.
- • Engage in student teaching opportunities.

We also utilize virtual nocturnal ICU coverage, with very limited after-hours critical care needs, allowing us to offer outstanding balance and quality of life. A PFT lab and sleep center is onsite, and procedures such as central lines, intubations, and thoracentesis are optional, but available. The open ICU allows hospitalists to see selected patients without critical care consult mandated unless critically ill requiring vasopressor support or mechanical invasive or non-invasive ventilation. Responsibilities at the VA will include clinics, ICU, and pulmonary consult service weeks & procedures.
Sleep medicine training is helpful, though not necessary. Student teaching opportunities are available.

- Leadership: Dr. Julie Biller attended medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She stayed in Chicago, at the University of Chicago, for her Internal Medicine Residency as well as her Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship. As a lifelong Packer fan, she returned to Milwaukee in 1990, and joined the MCW faculty practicing at Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Biller provides care for adults with a wide variety of pulmonary conditions. Along with this, she established the Adult Cystic Fibrosis program, providing care for these individuals, participating in clinical research, and educating medical providers & the public about cystic fibrosis.
