The role leads the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team to drive excellence in scientific engagement, foster strategic partnerships, and ensure accurate reporting aligned with the medical plan across product lifecycles. It involves recruiting, onboarding, and developing MSLs while providing empathetic leadership and fostering cross-functional collaboration to align medical strategy and product plans.
Key Responsibilities
- • MSL recruiting, onboarding, and development activities.
- • Supervise the development of KOL engagement plans aligned with overall goals and medical strategy.
- • Regularly spend time directly observing and evaluating MSL field activities, offering feedback to support and ensure improvement of skills and expertise impacting performance, engagement excellence, compliance with policies and regulations, and professional development.
- • Monitor and focus MSL's operational efficiencies to ensure correct balance towards external-facing activities.
- • Ensure all MSLs complete US, global and corporate training requirements on time and demonstrate compliance with applicable internal and external policies and regulations.
- • Provide for on-going education of MSLs for assigned therapeutic area through oversight of development of new materials as well as updating of existing materials.
- • Develop strategic engagement plan and other MSL activities aligned to the overall customer/medical plan for the assigned therapeutic area goals and objectives.
- • Accountability to communicate with medical affairs leadership and share best practices/key learnings across the organization.
- • Identify opportunities for innovative field excellence initiatives to enhance Chiesi Medical Affairs ability to achieve and exceed department objectives.
- • Partner with key personnel within Chiesi USA and Chiesi Corporate, national sales director, regional sales managers, corporate account managers, marketing, market access and regulatory team for advancement of medical/strategic objectives.
- • Monthly/quarterly reports of MSL activity (inclusive of insights gathered).
- • Lead/facilitate scientific meetings/congress planning; serve as a representative of Chiesi USA for internal planning.
- • Manage budget appropriately and ensure financial resources are used responsibly by direct reports.
Required
- • Graduate level degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD, DNP, MS) or appropriate healthcare professional degree
- • At least 10 years pharmaceutical industry experience or clinical experience
- • Experience in pharmaceutical industry as an MSL for at least 5 years
- • Medical affairs leadership experience for at least 3 years (required)
- • Respiratory experience required
- • Demonstrated ability to create a trusting and inspiring culture while managing and leading a high performing team of professionals
- • Knowledge and experience working in a highly regulated environment regarding product promotion, scientific exchange, and health care practitioner guidelines
- • Demonstrated proficiency in written, verbal, and face-to-face communications to effectively present information to and influence/support decision-making of managers, working partners, and governmental agencies
- • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and multifunctional resources concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail when responding to changing priorities, ambiguity, and sometimes aggressive deadlines
- • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Adobe, etc.

This is what you will do
- As a Head of/Director of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team, your primary purpose is to serve as the organizational conduit between US Medical Affairs management and field-based teams in order to drive excellence in scientific engagement, foster strategic partnerships, and ensure accurate reporting of the customer voice all aligned to the overall medical plan across the lifecycle of our products and pipeline assets in the USA.
- The Head of/Director will recruit, onboard, and support the ongoing development of competent and diverse MSLs.
- Provide authentic, selfless, empathetic leadership for the field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) in order to set clear expectations and provide constructive feedback in an encouraging and inspiring manner to build team and organizational resilience and trust.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between the MSL team and key company’s departments to assure alignment during the development, implementation and execution of the medical strategy and product specific medical plans.

Remote position, must be willing to travel up to 75% travel as necessary to meet job requirements; includes overnights and occasional weekend travel.
Compensation
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $250,000 to $285,000. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
