Medical Director-Anesthesiology

The Anesthesia Medical Director provides clinical oversight, regulatory governance, and quality leadership for anesthesia services in OBS GI environments. This role ensures safe anesthesia care, compliance with OBS regulations, development of anesthesia policies and procedures, and leadership of per diem anesthesiology providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for all anesthesia services delivered in OBS GI environments.
  • Oversee anesthesia clearance processes, patient risk stratification, and appropriateness of OBS-based anesthesia care.
  • Develop, review, and maintain anesthesia policies, protocols, and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with NYS OBS regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Lead peer review, incident investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide governance and clinical leadership over per diem anesthesiologists
  • Monitor anesthesia quality metrics including adverse events and recovery outcomes.
  • Partner with Operations and Nursing leadership to optimize perioperative workflows.
  • Participate in Quality & Safety Committees and performance reporting, as needed
  • Oversee anesthesia credentialing, privileging, and ongoing competency assessments.
  • Lead anesthesia-related training and emergency drills.
  • Maintain HIPAA, OSHA, and patient safety compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Required
  • MD or DO with Board Certification in Anesthesiology.
  • Active New York State medical license.
  • 3–5+ years anesthesia experience in ambulatory or OBS settings.
Preferred
  • Leadership or medical director experience preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for all anesthesia services delivered in OBS GI environments.
  • Oversee anesthesia clearance processes, patient risk stratification, and appropriateness of OBS-based anesthesia care.

Education and Experience Required:

  • MD or DO with Board Certification in Anesthesiology.
  • Active New York State medical license.
  • 3–5+ years anesthesia experience in ambulatory or OBS settings.
  • Leadership or medical director experience preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Clinical oversight of anesthesia providers and related clinical staff.

Work Environment:

Office-based surgery GI centers with exposure to clinical procedures and anesthesia equipment.

Dress Attire:

As determined by the Care Center.

Days/Hours:

To be determined by Care Center and operational needs.

Physical Demands:

Requires standing, walking, clinical dexterity, and rapid response to patient care needs.
