Donor Alliance
The Associate Organ Recovery Surgeon is responsible for the surgical recovery of abdominal donor organs for transplantation, education, and research. This role leads the operative environment in collaboration with surgical staff and donor hospital personnel, facilitating organ recoveries primarily at a state-of-the-art recovery center and hospitals across Colorado and Wyoming. The position includes opportunities to learn advanced recovery techniques such as normothermic regional perfusion and to mentor internal staff using a simulation center.
Key Responsibilities
- • Minimum of 20 on-call days per month (15 clinical/5 office), including some weekends and holidays, with 24-hour call shifts and a self-scheduled system.
- • Report to the Chief Medical Officer and work alongside another organ recovery surgeon, a surgical organ recovery specialist, and a surgical first assist, as well as other internal and external staff.
- • Facilitate the hands-on recovery of abdominal organs for transplantation, education, and research.
- • Partner with internal and external partners throughout the donor recovery process, embodying excellence and professionalism.
- • Opportunities to recover organs using normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and potential to move into cardiothoracic recovery.
- • Act as a mentor to internal staff around surgical procedures through hands-on learning and use of the simulation center.
Required
- • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, board certification in general surgery with current licensure.
- • Experienced in performing DCD and DBD organ recoveries or transplant operations in the United States.
- • High level of professionalism and enthusiasm for the support of the mission, respecting donor hospitals as guests and following the core value of People First.

Associate Organ Recovery Surgeon
The Associate Organ Recovery Surgeon is responsible for the surgical recovery of abdominal donor organs for transplantation, education, and/or research in the operative setting. This position leads the operative environment in collaboration with the organ recovery surgical staff, donor hospital staff, and others who participate in the recovery process.
- Minimum of 20 on-call days per month (15 clinical/5 office), including some weekends and holidays. Call shifts are 24 hours. The schedule is self-scheduled with the rest of the organ recovery surgical team.
- This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer, and works alongside another organ recovery surgeon, a surgical organ recovery specialist, and a surgical first assist, as well as other internal and external staff.
- Facilitate the hands-on recovery of abdominal organs for transplantation, education, and research. Most brain-dead donor organ recoveries are transferred to our state-of-the-art recovery center. Other donor recoveries will happen within hospitals across Colorado & Wyoming.
- Partner with internal and external partners throughout the donor recovery process, embodying excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications & Skills
