The Physician, Hospitalist Services / Nocturnist provides exclusive inpatient or observation care to hospitalized adult patients in various hospital units including medical wards, acute care units, intensive care units, and emergency rooms. Responsibilities include generalist/primary care consultations, patient histories and physical exams, diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of complex conditions, care coordination, medication prescription, patient admission, and specialist referral. The role also involves preliminary interpretation of ECG and imaging studies, directing CPR, prescribing BiPAP or CPAP, performing arterial punctures and venipunctures, and participating in Unit Based Clinical Leadership, typically during overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide exclusive inpatient or observation care to hospitalized adult patients in medical wards, acute care units, intensive care units and emergency rooms
- • Provide generalist/primary care consultations
- • Perform patient histories and physical examinations
- • Diagnose and non-surgical treatment of a range of complex and comorbid disease conditions
- • Manage and coordinate care throughout treatment
- • Prescribe medication or treatment regimens to hospital patients
- • Admit patients for hospital stays
- • Refer patients to specialists when necessary
- • Perform preliminary interpretation of ECG and imaging studies
- • Direct CPR
- • Prescribe BiPAP or CPAP
- • Interpret results of testing and procedures (e.g., plain films, arthrocentesis, paracentesis, I&D abscess, pathology, and spirometry)
- • Perform arterial punctures and venipunctures
- • Actively participate in Unit Based Clinical Leadership model and structure
- • Work shifts overnight
Required
- • Must have Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited school of medicine or foreign equivalent
- • Must have a Pennsylvania medical license
- • Completion of accredited 36-month Internal Medicine Residency program
- • Board Certified / Board Eligible in Internal Medicine

Tower Health Medical Group seeks a Physician, Hospitalist Services / Nocturnist to work at Reading Hospital in West Reading, PA, applying internal medicine education and training to provide exclusive inpatient or observation care to hospitalized adult patients in medical wards, acute care units, intensive care units and emergency rooms. Position entails providing generalist/primary care consultations, performing patient histories and physical examinations, diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of a range of complex and comorbid disease conditions, management and coordination of care throughout treatment, prescription of medication or treatment regimens to hospital patients, admission of patients for hospital stays, and referral of patients to specialists when necessary. More specifically, the Physician Hospitalist Services / Nocturnist will perform preliminary interpretation of ECG and imaging studies, direct CPR, prescribe BiPAP or CPAP, and interpret results of (but not perform) testing and procedures (e.g., plain films, arthrocentesis, paracentesis, I&D abscess, pathology, and spirometry). The Physician, Hospitalist Services / Nocturnist will perform arterial punctures and venipunctures and will actively participate in Unit Based Clinical Leadership model and structure. Qualifications
Education Requirements:
Must have Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited school of medicine or foreign equivalent.
License/certification Requirement
Must have a Pennsylvania medical license.
Residency/Training Requirement
Completion of accredited 36-month Internal Medicine Residency program.
Skills Requirement
Board Certified / Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
