The department holds ACR accreditation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The section is typically staffed with 3 to 4 radiologists each day and performs over 28,000 mammographic exams per year; including 23,000 screening mammograms, >95% of them with 3D tomosynthesis. There are 7 Hologic mammographic units; 4 at the 2 screening sites and 3 in our diagnostic center. All units have Hologic 3D tomosynthesis and C-View. There are 4 GE Logic E-10 ultrasound units staffed by dedicated breast sonographers. Supplementary whole breast ultrasound screening for dense breast tissue is performed with GE automated breast ultrasound (ABUS), as well as handheld screening ultrasound performed by sonographers. Clinical breast MRI is performed on a Philips wide bore 3.0T unit with a state of the art 16-channel breast coil. A second 3.0T magnet with breast imaging capability has just come online. We also have available four 1.5T Philips magnets. Approximately 700 breast biopsies are performed each year: including US guided core biopsies, stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsies (on both prone and upright units) and MRI guided biopsies (all performed on a 3T magnet).
The successful candidate would join the growing Division of Breast Imaging which is currently composed of 6 dedicated breast imagers and two retired radiologists who work per diem.
The Breast Care Center, staffed by surgical oncologists, nurse navigators and a physician assistant, adjoins the Breast Imaging Department. Radiologists in the Breast Imaging Division participate in multidisciplinary conferences with their colleagues in surgical, medical and radiation oncology as well as pathology and plastic surgery.
Ours is an academic practice of 50 full and part-time radiologists who serve as the clinical faculty for the ACGME Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Residency programs at the University of Vermont. UVMMC is affiliated with the Robert Larner, M.D College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Faculty members are actively engaged in resident and medical student education, including daily image interpretation and teaching conferences, and the Division collaborates with breast colleagues at multiple interdisciplinary conferences. A 3.0T dedicated research magnet operated by the University of Vermont MRI Center for Biomedical Imaging is housed in the Radiology Department and staffed by full time experienced research technologists and MR physicists. A dedicated research team supports Radiology Health Services Research in collaboration with investigators at UVM.
This is a Clinical Scholar Pathway full-time position in the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor rank. Applicants must have completed a breast fellowship (or equivalent) and must be ABR certified or eligible. The position is 1.0 FTE breast imaging but consideration will also be given to candidates who desire less than 1.0 participation.
The compensation package is competitive and faculty rank is commensurate with experience.
