The Assistant Professor will manage pleural and complex pulmonary disease, providing high-quality care in inpatient and outpatient settings. The role involves active participation in education and training of Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows, as well as involvement in departmental and divisional academic activities. Faculty members are expected to contribute significantly to clinical service, education, and related scholarship within the Clinical Scholar Track.
Key Responsibilities
- • Manage pleural disease using state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
- • Provide comprehensive care for pulmonary patients in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
- • Collaborate with an established Pulmonary research group to support clinical innovation and scholarly activity.
- • Contribute to the education and mentorship of Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows, residents, and medical students.
- • Participate in departmental and divisional educational conferences, teaching rounds, and academic activities as assigned.
- • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain expertise in interventional pulmonary medicine.
Required
- • MD, DO or equivalent.
- • 3 years of experience in basic/translational research in respiratory field.
Preferred
- • 5 years of experience in basic/translational research in respiratory field.
- • Evidence of extramural grant funding as demonstrated by application materials.
- • Experience leading a laboratory in basic/translational research.

Job Description Summary
The Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at University of Kansas Medical Center will manage pleural and complex pulmonary disease, and provide high-quality medical care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, the Assistant Professor will play an active role in the education and training of Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows, as well as participate in departmental and divisional academic activities. The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.
