The Executive Director is responsible for defining, building, and scaling the global medical affairs ecosystem to enhance scientific engagement, insight generation, and field excellence. This role leads enterprise-wide strategy and execution for efficiency tools, customer engagement platforms, and value delivery of the medical affairs portfolio, partnering across multiple functions to modernize medical engagement and elevate field impact.
Key Responsibilities
- • Define and implement the global Medical Affairs customer engagement and transformation strategy with clear outcomes, metrics, and a multiyear roadmap aligned to enterprise and portfolio priorities.
- • Build standardized, insight led engagement models for HCPs, patient groups, and scientific societies across field and non-field channels; optimize omnichannel journeys and scientific content delivery.
- • In partnership with GMA content strategy, implement efficiency tools for content creation, modular reuse, and knowledge management to improve speed, quality, and consistency.
- • Translate high impact medical Affairs use cases into functional, nonfunctional, data, and AI requirements; partner with IT/AI to drive adoption and track critical metrics for continuous improvement.
- • In partnership with commercial build and standardize omnichannel medical engagement (MSL digital touchpoints, virtual exchange, webinars, congress digitization, self-service MI) with scientific rigor and regional adaptability.
- • Establish critical metric frameworks and performance management with leading/lagging indicators; partner with medical excellence teams to provide real-time dashboards and predictive insights.
- • Partner with Field Medical Excellence to embed digital capabilities in field engagement, insight collection, training, certification, and performance dashboards with closed loop decisioning.
- • Lead talent and vendors: build a high performing global team, defend AI/digital medical investment, negotiate contracts, and ensure value realization.
Required
- • Advanced degree required (MD, PhD, PharmD, MSc, MBA, or equivalent). Strong AI/digital literacy are essential.
- • 15+ years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry with multifaceted responsibility across Medical Affairs, Medical Excellence, Digital/IT, or Commercial Operations; minimum 3 years in oncology.
- • 10+ years of people management, including building and leading global, matrixed teams and developing leaders.
- • Proven success implementing medical systems and medical information platforms, learning systems, analytics/BI, and omnichannel medical engagement at scale.
- • Practical experience deploying AI/ML solutions in Medical Affairs (insight analytics, content augmentation, predictive engagement), including model governance, measurement, and responsible AI practices.
- • Strong understanding of global/local medical regulations, scientific exchange standards, privacy, and data governance; experience designing SOPs and enterprise governance frameworks.
- • Proven track record to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence without authority, and simplify complex strategies for diverse stakeholders; excellent communication, strategic storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
- • Skilled in portfolio prioritization, vendor management, budgeting, and benefits realization; comfortable with enterprise project management and agile delivery methods.
