This position involves providing interventional radiology coverage (at least 50%) and general diagnostic radiology coverage (up to 50%) including STAT x-rays, ultrasound, body CT, and MRI. The role includes performing a wide range of image-guided procedures and participating in multidisciplinary conferences and collaborations with specialists. Key Responsibilities
- • Join a dedicated team of 18 radiologists including 3 other full-time Interventional Radiologists, 6 Interventional Radiology technologists, and 7 Interventional Radiology Registered Nurses
- • Deliver complex and life-changing interventions for Veterans at a modern, fully equipped facility
- • Provide at least 50% IR coverage (both inpatient and outpatient) and up to 50% general diagnostic radiology coverage
- • Perform general diagnostic coverage including general STAT x-rays, general ultrasound, body CT, and body MRI
- • Perform a large spectrum of image-guided procedures including Y-90 therapy, prostate artery embolization, vertebral augmentation, and endovascular management of peripheral arterial disease
- • Engage in multidisciplinary discourse at the facility's weekly Vascular conference, Genitourinary tumor board, and Liver/GI tumor board
- • Collaborate with specialists in oncology, hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery, and vascular surgery
- • Participate in the UC Irvine Radiology residency program with 2.0 FTE interventional radiology residents/fellows and afterhours resident call coverage
- • Hold a faculty appointment at the University of California, Irvine with teaching opportunities
- • Engage in federally funded research opportunities
- • Attend IR staff meetings, participate in peer review/peer learning, complete all mandatory annual training, and maintain ACLS/BLS certification
- • Provide call coverage on a 1:4 weeks schedule complemented by resident call support
Required
- • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- • Degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
- • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
- • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- • Approved residencies include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other residencies deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee with five years of verified practice in the US
- • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who meet basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
- • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis; they are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged
- • Proficiency in spoken and written English
- • Board Certification in the Specialty/Sub-Specialty listed in the announcement
