The position involves specialized clinical care and advanced training in immuno-psychiatry focused on Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS/PANDAS), Sydenham's Chorea, post-infectious/autoimmune psychiatric disorders, and related autoimmune conditions. The role includes comprehensive training in diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and longitudinal care management of complex pediatric patients within the Immune Behavioral Health Clinic.
Key Responsibilities
- • Participate primarily in the care of patients under the care of the IBH clinical inpatient and outpatient service.
- • Provide comprehensive training and mentorship focused on the development of advanced clinical skills in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of PANS/PANDAS and related conditions.
- • Perform specialized diagnostic tests and instruments, physical, neurological, rheumatological, and dermatological examinations.
- • Conduct work ups of differential diagnoses of inflammatory brain conditions, systemic inflammatory conditions associated with psychiatric symptoms, infectious diseases triggering inflammatory disease, immunodeficiency syndromes, and immunogenetic conditions.
- • Administer commonly used anti-inflammatories, immunomodulation, psychotropics, and behavioral interventions.
- • Manage longitudinal care strategies including transition from pediatric to adult care.
- • Learn to manage pharmacological interventions such as immunomodulation, IVIG, Rituximab, and other DMARD therapies including methotrexate and sulfasalazine.
- • Utilize electronic questionnaires and REDCap to track patients and clinical data to improve future decision making.
- • Engage in active and ongoing involvement in clinical research projects.
- • Disseminate evidence-based practices in PANS/PANDAS to new academic and community medical settings in the State of North Carolina.
Required
- • MD or equivalent degree with board eligibility or board certification in Psychiatry, Rheumatology, Pediatrics, Immunology, Neurology, or other related discipline.
- • Medical licensure in California by the appointment start date.
- • Willingness to learn to administer and manage care for patients with PANS including pharmacological interventions such as immunomodulation, IVIG, Rituximab, and DMARD therapy.
- • Willingness to manage psychiatric disorders such as OCD and anxiety.
- • Willingness to learn and utilize electronic questionnaires and REDCap for clinical data tracking.

At this time, the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology in the Department of Pediatrics at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital/Stanford University School of Medicine is recruiting a 1-2 years position as a faculty scholar who intends to be dedicated to the field of immuno-psychiatry and is interested in gaining specialized expertise in clinical care of children/adolescents with Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome(PANS/PANDAS), Sydenham's Chorea, post-infectious/autoimmune psychiatric disorders, and associated autoimmune conditions including arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, lupus, etc. The incumbent will be classified as a Clinician Instructor and mentorship will be provided by core clinicians and faculty in Pediatrics and Psychiatry within the Immune Behavioral Health (IBH) Clinic, overseen by Clinical Professor of Pediatrics-Rheumatology, Stanford PANS Research Program Director and IBH Medical Director, Jennifer Frankovich, MD MS. Academic line will be determined by the qualification and experience of the successful candidate.
We expect the successful candidate to participate primarily in the care of patients under the care of the IBH service within the Division of Allergy, Immunology, Rheumatology. The goal of this position is to provide comprehensive training and mentorship focused on the development of advanced clinical skills in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of this complex patient population. Teachings will be inclusive of:
- specialized diagnostic tests and instruments, physical, neurological, rheumatological, and dermatological examinations.
- work ups of differential diagnoses of all inflammatory brain conditions, systemic inflammatory conditions associated with psychiatric symptoms, rare and common infectious diseases known to trigger inflammatory disease, immunodeficiency syndromes, and immunogenetic conditions.
- administration of commonly used anti-inflammatories, immunomodulation, psychotropics, and behavioral interventions.
- Longitudinal care management strategies; transition from pediatric to adult care
Ideal candidates will be curious, flexible, resilient, and willing to learn to administer and manage the care for patients with PANS. Candidates should be dedicated to the field of immuno-psychiatry, have an understanding or curiosity in basic cognitive behavior therapy and psychotic management, and be willing to manage psychiatric disorders such as OCD and anxiety. All candidates, regardless of background and expertise, must also be willing to learn how to manage pharmacological interventions such as immunomodulation, IVIG, Rituximab, other DMARD therapy including methotrexate, sulfasalazine, etc. The candidate will also be trained and expected utilize electronic questionnaires and REDCap to track patients/clinical data to improve future decision making. Active and ongoing involvement in clinical research projects will be strongly encouraged.

The expected base pay range for this position is $148,000-$152,000 annually
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
