Academic Director of Hospital Epidemiology - VAPA

The Academic Director of Hospital Epidemiology will manage infection control protocols, policies, and procedures, oversee staff, and chair the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Committee. The role involves partnering with a multi-disciplinary IPC team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and establishing an independent research program focused on Infection Control and Healthcare Epidemiology.

Key Responsibilities

The Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University and the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), seek an Academic Director of Hospital Epidemiology to join the division as Assistant or Associate Professor in the University Medical Line. Applicants must have an MD or equivalent medical degree, current eligibility/certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the specialty of Infectious Diseases. We are particularly interested in candidates with Epidemiology experience in Healthcare Systems and research interests in Infection Control and Healthcare Epidemiology. The ability or promise for conducting biosurveillance and facilitating Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) programs are highly desired.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

We expect the successful candidate to obtain/possess a State of California Medical Board License and have successfully completed Infection Control and Healthcare Epidemiology training (or demonstrate equivalent specialized experience). The successful candidate is expected to manage all infection control protocols, policies, and procedures of the IPC Department in addition to overseeing/supervising staff. The Academic Director of Hospital Epidemiology chairs the IPC Committee, works in partnership with the VAPAHCS multi-disciplinary IPC team, and is responsible for ensuring the IPC Department's compliance with The Joint Commission, State, and Federal regulatory requirements. The successful candidate should have the ability/promise to establish an independent research program.

The VAPAHCS, which is affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, maintains an active Infectious Disease (ID) program within the ID Section of Medical Service. ID physicians play a major role at VAPAHCS in addressing infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, and antimicrobial stewardship. The goal of the ID Section is to deliver the highest level of quality, Veteran-centered care while providing a world-class educational experience for Stanford residents, fellows, and medical students. The expected base pay range for this position is:

Assistant Professor: $269,000 – $280,000

Associate Professor: $288,000 – $301,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine's faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
