The Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Program Manager leads the delivery and operational management of an outsourced CDI program, working onsite with hospital leadership, physicians, and operational teams to develop, implement, and sustain a high-performing CDI program. The role includes program development, staff training, onboarding, analytics, physician engagement, performance monitoring, and active participation in CDI record reviews and provider coaching to support documentation accuracy and appropriate reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
- • Serve as the primary onsite CDI program leader representing the outsourced CDI services organization.
- • Partner with hospital leadership, HIM, coding, quality, and revenue cycle teams to implement and operationalize the CDI program.
- • Establish CDI workflows, operational standards, and documentation improvement strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- • Provide ongoing operational oversight to ensure the outsourced CDI program delivers measurable improvements in documentation quality, coding accuracy, and financial performance.
- • Support the development and implementation of a scalable CDI program structure.
- • Assist with defining CDI policies, procedures, query processes, and physician engagement strategies.
- • Identify documentation improvement opportunities through data analysis and operational reviews.
- • Participate in the strategic development and continuous improvement of CDI services delivered to the client organization.
- • Lead training and onboarding of CDI specialists deployed within the program.
- • Provide education to physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical teams regarding documentation best practices.
- • Develop training materials and educational sessions to support CDI program adoption and engagement.
- • Mentor and coach CDI staff to ensure consistent review quality and adherence to program standards.
- • Perform concurrent and retrospective chart reviews to identify opportunities for documentation clarification.
- • Issue compliant physician queries to improve clinical specificity and documentation accuracy.
- • Collaborate closely with coding professionals to ensure documentation supports accurate coding and reporting.
- • Support improvements in severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), case mix index (CMI), and quality reporting metrics.
- • Build strong relationships with physicians and clinical leaders to support documentation improvement initiatives.
- • Deliver targeted provider education based on clinical documentation trends and data insights.
- • Provide one-on-one physician coaching and feedback regarding documentation improvement opportunities.
- • Monitor CDI program performance using key operational and financial indicators including Case Mix Index (CMI), Severity of Illness (SOI), Risk of Mortality (ROM), query rates and response rates, documentation capture of complications and comorbidities, and financial impact of documentation improvement.
- • Analyze documentation, coding, and quality trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- • Prepare dashboards, operational reports, and performance summaries for hospital and vendor leadership.
- • Serve as a key liaison between the outsourced CDI services organization and the client hospital leadership team.
- • Participate in operational meetings and program reviews with client stakeholders.
- • Support the delivery of CDI performance reporting and recommendations to executive leadership.
- • Ensure the outsourced CDI program consistently meets client expectations and performance goals.

Position Overview
The Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Program Manager is responsible for leading the delivery and operational management of an outsourced Clinical Documentation Integrity program for a major healthcare system. This role functions as an embedded CDI leader working onsite with hospital leadership, physicians, and operational teams to develop, implement, and sustain a high-performing CDI program.
The CDI Program Manager will represent the outsourced CDI services organization and serve as the primary operational leader responsible for program development, staff training, onboarding, analytics, physician engagement, and performance monitoring. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the role will include active participation in CDI record reviews and provider coaching to support documentation accuracy, quality reporting, and appropriate reimbursement.
This position requires onsite presence in Seattle, Washington during the initial program implementation and stabilization period. As the program matures, the role may transition to a hybrid work model.
