Physician - Medical Director - Anesthesiology
This role serves as Medical Director for a hospital-employed Anesthesiology group, overseeing 34 anesthesiologists and 100+ anesthetists in a collaborative care team model. The position is split evenly between clinical duties and administrative leadership, managing anesthesia services across multiple campuses with diverse case mixes and call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- • Serve as Medical Director for hospital-employed Anesthesiology group
- • Oversee a group of 34 employed anesthesiologists and 100+ anesthetists
- • Provide clinical care (50% clinical duties)
- • Perform administrative leadership duties (50% administrative)
- • Manage anesthesia services at multiple campuses including SMC Church Street Campus, SMC Mary Black Campus, PMC Pelham Medical Center, and CMC Cherokee Medical Center
- • Provide in-house call for night and weekend coverage at certain campuses
- • Provide home call coverage for nights and weekends at certain campuses
- • Provide medical direction up to 1:4
Required
- • Board certified in Anesthesiology
- • Proven track record leading a hospital-employed anesthesia group
- • Minimum of 7 years clinical experience
- • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience

- 19,000+ cases annually, 3,800+ deliveries annually
- 23 State of the art OR’s, 3 Cardiac ORs, 3 EP labs equipped for anesthesia, 3 OB ORs, 4 Endo suites
- General case mix includes: General, Plastics, OB, Gyn, Urology, Ortho, Vascular, ENT, Trauma, GI, Neuro, Thoracic, Regional Anesthesia and Peds (primarily healthy peds dental, ENT, ophtho and Ortho, with occasional NICU cases). Off-sites include MRI and IR
- In-house call for night and weekend coverage
- Medical Direction up to 1:4
- SMC – Mary Black Campus (Spartanburg, SC)
- 9 ORs, 4 Endo suites, 5000+ cases annually
- 3 Anesthesiologists staffed each day
- Nights and weekends home call coverage
- Medical Direction up to 1:4
- Case mix: General, Plastics, Ortho, Optho, ENT, Urology, Neuro (no craniotomies), Regional Anesthesia, minimal healthy Peds, & GYN
- DNV Hip & Knee Center of Excellence
- PMC – Pelham Medical Center (Greer, SC)
- 5 ORs (with expansion in progress), 1 Minor Room, 1 Cath Lab, 1 MRI
- Case mix includes: Ortho, Spine, Neuro, General, Robotics, GYN, Plastics, Vascular, GI, Maxo-facial, Pain & ENT (68% Ortho & Spine)
- 4,000+ cases annually
- DNV Orthopaedic, Hip & Knee, Spine, and Foot & Ankle Center of Excellence
- US News & World Report #1 in Spine for SC
- Nights and weekends home call coverage
- CMC - Cherokee Medical Center (Gaffney, SC)
- 5 ORs, 1 MD per day
- Case mix: General, Gyn, GI, Ortho, Regional Anesthesia, occasional TEEs, minimal healthy Peds
- No evening or weekend cases; no call requirements
- Medical Direction up to 1:4
