Medical Science Liaison - Columbus Lung Franchise

The MSL acts as the local medical voice in thoracic cancer, developing medical strategies to improve patient care and outcomes. This field-based role involves providing medical and scientific support for oncology products, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and leading clinical trials and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes oneself as a trusted scientific advisor, peer and expert by both internal stakeholders and external HCPs (e.g. functions as an expert in response to scientific questions)
  • Synthesizes HCP insights from multiple HCP segments within a region and communicates with internal stakeholders
  • Serves as point of reference for the integration of science into proposed business strategies, training, and resources
  • Synthesizes and integrates research, and summarizes findings, in a compelling narrative for various HCP segments
  • Build strong collaboration with key stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Development
  • Drives best practice sharing within and outside the organization, and helps apply them to work processes within Field Medical Affairs
  • Serves as a lead for clinical trials, research activities, and special projects
  • Coach others team members to develop strong working relationships in different external business settings (e.g. academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices)
  • Supports team members’ creative and innovative ideas while recognizing others’ contribution to team/project success
  • Provides MSL training content, assists with MSL onboarding, and serves as a ‘buddy’ to new MSL hires
  • Lead MSLs in their responsibilities for congress scientific coverage and data synthesis support
Required
  • Advanced scientific degree required (i.e. Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering customer-related outcomes in targeted field/territory
  • Demonstrated ability to impact Medical Affairs and MSL strategies on a regional level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate scientific data to internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and in groups
  • Ability to navigate within a matrixial environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent project management ability
  • Ability to travel (40-60% by car and plane domestic)

  • MSL experience preferred
  • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical displine
  • Oncology experience

Introduction to the role

The MSL serves as the local medical voice of AZ in the disease area of interest, thoracic cancer, and builds a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in their territory. The MSL is an established field-based professional with extensive scientific, clinical and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology marketed products, new indications for current products, and compounds in development.

Accountabilities

In this field-based role covering Columbus Territory (including OH/PA) and surrounding areas. You will be supporting Thoracic Cancer Field Medical.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Advanced scientific degree required (i.e. Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline
  • MSL experience preferred

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical displine

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $ 174,455.20 - 261,682.80 USD. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
