The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is an executive leader responsible for building, leading, and scaling the Clinical Performance and Education Departments. Key Responsibilities
- • Build, lead, and scale the Clinical Performance and Education departments.
- • Establish clear ownership of clinical standards, documentation integrity, quality outcomes, and provider performance.
- • Develop enforceable, executable clinical frameworks that ensure consistency across all markets.
- • Partner with senior leadership to align clinical strategy with company growth objectives.
- • Define and standardize evidence-based clinical care pathways and documentation requirements.
- • Conduct chart audits and performance reviews to ensure compliance and quality.
- • Address performance gaps directly with providers and regional managers.
- • Enforce accountability through structured feedback, performance management, and ongoing coaching.
- • Own and execute all provider education, onboarding, and advanced clinical training.
- • Design mentorship programs and post-fellowship pathways aligned with field execution.
- • Maintain and grow HPM University and academic partnerships with operational accountability.
- • Ensure education directly improves documentation accuracy, clinical consistency, and provider productivity.
- • Maintain approximately 50% field presence across markets.
- • Engage directly with hospital partners, CRNA’s, physicians and advanced practice providers.
- • Conduct site visits, case reviews, performance evaluations, and coaching sessions.
- • Reinforce expectations around quality, efficiency, and documentation standards.
- • Drive growth by expanding patient access, reducing unwarranted care variation, improving provider productivity, and strengthening referral confidence.
- • Partner with Operations and Finance to ensure clinical execution supports sustainable financial performance.
- • Align incentive structures with measurable performance outcomes.
- • Serve as a strategic partner to the senior leadership team.
- • Collaborate with the VP of Operations and Regional Managers to scale multi-site performance.
- • Support recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention of providers.
- • Participate in business development initiatives and hospital partnerships as a clinical ambassador.
- • Establish and enforce patient safety and clinical risk protocols.
- • Oversee documentation timeliness and regulatory compliance standards.
- • Serve as escalation authority for provider conduct or performance issues.
- • Ensure growth is achieved ethically and compliantly.
Required
- • MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- • Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license; eligible for multi-state licensure.
- • Board-certified in a relevant specialty.
- • 5–10+ years of clinical practice experience.
- • Minimum 3–5 years of physician leadership experience with multi-site or system-level responsibility.
- • Demonstrated experience influencing provider performance and enforcing clinical standards.
Preferred
- • Experience in growth-stage, privately held, or operationally dynamic healthcare environments preferred.
- • Strong understanding of rural, community-based, or underserved healthcare delivery.

Position Summary:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is an executive business partner and operational leader responsible for building, leading, and scaling HPM’s Clinical Performance and Education Departments. This role owns clinical standards, provider education, quality outcomes, and field-level provider performance across all markets.
This position has evolved from advisory oversight to execution based accountability. The CMO is responsible for translating clinical excellence into measurable performance outcomes, including access expansion, provider productivity, documentation integrity, referral confidence, and sustainable revenue growth.
Education is not a standalone academic function; it is an operational lever. The CMO assumes direct ownership of provider training, mentorship, onboarding, accreditation, and academic partnerships, ensuring education drives execution, consistency, and performance in the field.
This role requires strong field presence, direct provider engagement, and visible leadership. The CMO is expected to coach, audit, mentor, and hold providers accountable to defined clinical and documentation standards. Growth is driven through clinical excellence!
HPM is seeking a driver, not a passenger; an operator physician who can scale systems, enforce standards, and align clinical performance with company growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Clinical Performance Division Leadership
· Build, lead, and scale the Clinical Performance and Education departments.
· Establish clear ownership of clinical standards, documentation integrity, quality outcomes, and provider performance.
