RIVERSIDE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY INDIAN HEALTH INC
The Psychiatrist will diagnose, assess, and treat mental illnesses using psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, medication, and other treatments. The role supports mental health care provided by primary care providers and chemical dependency counselors in community health clinics, requiring strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- • Analyze and evaluate patient data and test or examination findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder
- • Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
- • Collaborate with primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, alcohol and CD counselors or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress
- • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals
- • Counsel outpatients and other patients during office visits
- • Examine or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder
- • Advise and inform guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment
- • Review and evaluate treatment procedures and outcomes with medical professional
- • Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments
- • Teach, conduct research, and publish findings to increase understanding of mental, emotional, and behavioral states and disorders
- • Prepare and submit case reports and summaries to government and mental health agencies
- • Use the EHR tracking system to document recommendations for treatment and/or referrals so that they can be easily shared with PCPs and other treating providers
- • Ensure that all protected health information in local computer/networks is stored in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- • Serve on committees to promote and maintain community mental health services and delivery systems
- • Attend medical and BHS meetings to coordinate communication and planning between BHS and Medical
Required
- • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school
- • Successfully completed an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry
- • Current, active, and unrestricted California medical license
- • Board certified in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- • Current DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
- • CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (certification may be obtained prior to orientation)
- • California Driver’s License with a safe driving record, DMV record required, and must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier
- • Ability to build rapport and establish strong therapeutic working relationships with patients and staff
- • Ability to manage care activities and reprioritize workload as needed
- • Ability to work as part of a patient care team
- • Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs
Preferred
- • A minimum of three to five years of experience in an outpatient mental health clinical setting
- • Two years of experience in an ambulatory care psychiatric practice setting

Physical Demands:
The assignment will be carried out in an outpatient behavioral health clinic setting. There is some infrequent exposure to unstable and/or hostile patients. Most time is spent sitting with some intermittent walking and standing. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail or disabled. Driving will be required between clinics.
Appointment Type:
Part-Time, 16 Hours Per Week, Exempt
Compensation:
$153.82-$162.10 per hour ($127,978.24– $134,836.20 annually, depending on experience and internal equity)
Clinic Location: Soboba Clinic as assigned, travel required.
