Internal Medicine GME Program Director

The Program Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Internal Medicine residency program, including administration, educational oversight, competency maintenance, and personnel management. The role involves maintaining a learning environment that meets ACGME requirements and serving as a clinical role model while balancing part-time clinical duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversight of the daily operations of the program and ensuring compliance with all ACGME requirements.
  • Designing and conducting the program to meet the needs of the community and the missions of the program and Sponsoring Institution.
  • Maintaining a learning environment that educates residents in all ACGME Competency domains and promoting a culture of professional, respectful discussion.
  • Leading the recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, and discipline of residents.
  • Approving or removing faculty members at all participating sites and overseeing their evaluation and scholarly activities.
  • Serving as a role model for professionalism and high-quality patient care while maintaining ongoing clinical activity.
  • Reporting to the DIO.
Required
  • Must be ABIM or AOBIM board certified in internal medicine
  • Must have or be able to obtain a California medical license
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of educational or administrative GME experience in an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program
  • Must have strong administrative and team building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate ongoing clinical and research activities to model core competencies for residents and faculty

  • Part-time GME (.5) and part-time clinical (.5)
  • Clinical time can be outpatient clinic or hospital medicine

  • Administration and Operations: Oversight of the daily operations of the program and ensuring compliance with all ACGME requirements.
  • Educational Oversight: Designing and conducting the program to meet the needs of the community and the missions of the program and Sponsoring Institution.
  • Competency and Environment: Maintaining a learning environment that educates residents in all ACGME Competency domains and promoting a culture of professional, respectful discussion.
  • Personnel Management: Leading the recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, and discipline of residents.
  • Faculty Management: Approving or removing faculty members at all participating sites and overseeing their evaluation and scholarly activities.
  • Clinical Leadership: Serving as a role model for professionalism and high-quality patient care while maintaining ongoing clinical activity.
  • Reporting structure: The Program Director reports to the DIO
