Psychiatrist FT- Crisis Care Centers

The Crisis Care Center Psychiatrist provides high-quality psychiatric care within a 24/7 behavioral health crisis environment including Crisis Stabilization Unit, Crisis Residential Unit, Behavioral Health Urgent Care, and Mobile Crisis Services. The role collaborates with the Medical Director, interdisciplinary team members, and Advanced Practice Professionals, and participates in cross-site clinical coverage to support clinical operations and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct psychiatric services including evaluation, re-evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, restraint orders, and disposition decisions.
  • Conducts timely psychiatric assessments consistent with CSU (≤3 hrs) and CRU (≤24 hrs) requirements.
  • Incorporates Evidence-Based Best Practices and maintains compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Determines medical necessity and ensures clinically appropriate interventions.
  • Coordinates medical and psychiatric care with nursing and clinical staff.
  • Provides clinical oversight, case consultation, and collaborative review of documentation for APPs, including timely co-signatures.
  • Offers clinical direction and consultation to Mobile Crisis Teams.
  • Participates in doctor-to-doctor consultations, as needed, to support transitions and referrals.
  • Reviews eligibility assessments and triage information for individuals presenting to the Crisis Care Center or BHUC.
  • Participates in shift handovers, clinical huddles, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Contributes to Quality Assurance reviews, policy implementation, and continuous improvement.
  • Supervises and teaches psychiatry residents, fellows, or students, as applicable.
  • Completes required clinical documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Responds appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Provides urgent clinical consultation for members contacting the Crisis Care Center or Mobile Crisis Team.
  • Works morning, afternoon, or night shifts as assigned.
  • Participates in the weekend on-call rotation.
  • Supports cross-site psychiatrist coverage between 7 Mile and 707 locations during PTO, surge volume, or operational needs.
  • Adheres to DWIHN compliance, confidentiality, and reporting standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Medical Director.
Required
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry (ABPN).
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience treating behavioral health conditions, preferably in crisis, emergency, inpatient, or community mental health settings.
  • Valid and current Michigan medical license.
  • Valid Michigan controlled substance license.
  • Valid DEA registration.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
  • Additional Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry and/or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry preferred.

Psychiatrist (Full-time)

Crisis Care Centers – All Sites

Position Summary

The Crisis Care Center Psychiatrist provides high-quality psychiatric care within a 24/7 behavioral health crisis environment that includes a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), Crisis Residential Unit (CRU), Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC), and Mobile Crisis Services and as needed consultations for Pre-admission Screening units.

The Psychiatrist works reports to and work collaboratively with the Medical Director, interdisciplinary team members, and Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs). This role also participates in cross-site clinical coverage between the 7 Mile and 707 Crisis Centers as needed to support clinical operations, continuity of care, and provider coverage across the system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Knowledge of Joint Commission Accreditation and Certification Standards. • Knowledge of DWIHN policies and the regional community mental health system. • Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code and MDHHS policies. • Expertise in crisis psychiatry, psychopharmacology, diagnostic formulation, and managing individuals with SMI and co-occurring disorders. • Skill in managing agitated individuals and implementing crisis intervention strategies.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced crisis environment with nurses, therapists, APPs, peer specialists, and support staff. • Knowledge of behavioral health eligibility criteria, Medicaid guidelines, and pertinent federal regulations. • Excellent documentation, assessment, communication, and clinical decision-making skills. • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities. • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, EHR systems). • Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally competent care.

Required Education
